Sacrotuberous ligament is often a complicated name to spell, and difficult to find in the human body. The Bottom line is that most orthopedist and back specialist never talked about. I often localized it, and proceed treating the pain that this ligament itself cause on the low back, hips and other spots in the body. Appalled by the careless effort that most back injury pros, and journals put into the treatment of this ligament, I decided to write a few paragraphs on it, to help my readers, understand their main problem when it comes of lower back and hip pain.

What is the sacrotuberous ligament?

The sacrotuberous ligament is a stabilizer of the sacroiliac joint and connects the bony pelvis into the vertebral column the STL is in the shape of a fan located in the posterior pelvis, on both sides and connects the sacrum to the illiac tuberosities. Have fun yet understanding all these bony parts?. Bet you are not, so let’s get to the point and see how this ligament is killing your back.

The STL responds to many commands as you are moving your body and when your doctor tells you, you have a pinch nerve or a herniated disc, this ligament has most likely been compromised. And needs to be pumped with right therapies to go back to normal. Easy to say than done. I know. But think about how many parts of your body the STL touches as it runs across major joints and vertebrates. In most cases by getting this ligament healed, you will be able to detox your joints from nerve and scar tissue and relief a great deal of pain.

Let’s see what we can do to get this ligament back into a good health.

Flossing

Nerve flossing is a set of exercises that gently mobilize the nerves, Doctors may also refer to nerve flossing as nerve, or neural, gliding. The exercise are simple and often require no equipment so you can easily do them at home. When the nerves around the STL ligament become constrained the chances of sciatic pain, or lower back issues will increase. Thus, a good practice is to start flossing to avoid such disorders. Take a look at video above. Although there is a variety of nerve flossing exercises, that people can do to target these nerves, the best method is the one I am doing with my patient on video, as I found it easy to performed with a great deal of effectiveness.

Exercises And Therapies

As you progressed into the process of healing your sciatic nerve or low back pain, you can try to remove scar tissue or nerve pain by following some of the exercises on these series in order to produce better range of motion and loosing up the hips:

  • Stabilize your body on the ball with the help of an assistant. Remain with back flat on ball like on pic and lift right arm up for 20 secs. Change positions after 20 secs. And repeat for 4 sets total.
  • Adductor Abductor squeezing ball This is by far one of my favorite exercises and easy to perform at home. With small yoga ball put inside your thighs and squeeze and release tension for 20 times. Rest and perform again. This is a great exercise for inner ad outer thighs that target s your STL and adjacent muscles and ligaments as well.
  • Plank. The Plank is always a must whether you looking to tone your body’ strengthen your core, or simple use as a pain relief exercise I find this exercise as a culprit for all lower back issues and a must to perform while in pain, even if is only for 10 secs that you could hold on to.
  • Side leg kick leaning on swiss ball. That is a great exercise not only to relief nerve pain but also aids in flossing nerves that are causing irritation and slow mobility.

Conclusion

Whether you choose the therapies or exercise progressions on this article, rest assure that your low back issues will be dissolving as you progressively move on with these series. Leave your comments and don’t forget to share!
