Fating for heath and weight loss, has been the latest topic in our society. Everything from intermittent fasting for weight loss, to fasting before blood work. Wen done well fasting can have many benefits, that will outline in the next paragraphs. 5 immutable truths about fasting, will explain nit just the benefits for your body but also for your brain.  Fasting has been the oldest practice in men’s society, with many health benefits since ancient times BC. Not sure why all of the sudden it has become a huge deal. As if some one’s wit just emerged on the topic, and discover its benefits. When in reality fasting has been practice since the old testament, focusing on prayer, abstaining people from wine, snacks and foods. With health and obvious spiritual benefits, recognized even then!. Although, the main objective of fasting from the spiritual aspect was self-control and discipline. It is well known it clears our mind and bodies. As one denies the natural desires of the flesh.

Truth #1- Fasting improves insulin sensitivity. Fasting have shown to positive effect in insulin sensitivity. Studies have shown that after periods of fasting, insulin becomes more effective in telling cells to take up some glucose from blood. I have personally done this with patients, and the insulin effectiveness shows immediately as they are not stressing it with food constantly. It’s a good way to purify your liver and insulin indeed!.

Truth  #2-Fasting improves your leptin levels. Leptin is your satiety hormone that controls  appetite, and signals your body when you are full. When you are on portion control foods, to reduce weight, you can’t experience what real hunger is. When you fast for at least 12 hours, fasting will help you regulate your leptin, to experience what real hunger is and keeping you full.

Truth #3-Prevents Alzheimer’s and parkinson’s disease. Fasting activates brain stem cells, to convert into new neurons, and triggers other chemicals to promote neural health. Therefore, fasting will boost the production of a protein called brain-derived-neurotrophic-factor (BDNF). This (BDNF) will protect your brain cells from changes associated with alzheimer’s and parkinson’s disease.

Truth#4 Fasting Improves your immune system. In reality when we get sick we stop eating and focus in resting. We concentrate in restoring our immune system and fight off viruses. But if you do this constantly and focus on fasting, you will reduce free radicals and reduce inflammation a lot. I always see patients coming with 5 lbs lighter after being sick, and feeling restored and  lighter. Why wait to get sick when we can fast any day we want and reap the benefits of fasting?

Truth#5-Fasting promotes weight loss. Fasting that is controlled by water  consumption, to stay full allows your body to burn fast cells more effectively than just regular dieting. It also activates your anti diuretic hormone levels to manage your water intake better. Purifies your bladder and kidneys to expel fluids consistently and help you reduce weight through water expelling as well.
