Denville NJ Brazilian Jiujitsu Purple belt Discusses Blue Belt Ranking

Achieving a blue belt ranking in Brazilian Jiujitsu can be a great accomplishment, looking at many of the students experience at our BJJ CENTER IN PARSIPPANY NJ, in becoming blue belt, we can immediately see a total package of confidence, technique and fitness. We believe is one of the most important belts, because will dictate how you aim you journey from that point forward.

A blue belt ranking students, have shown resilience and had gone trrough a unsurmountable pain and disappointment. And the reason why said disappointment’ is simply because, in many cases a 125 pound dude can flip a 250 pound person without and remorse or problems. There is a point where we think twice if that journey is for us, or we can quit at a white belt level before things get worse for us.

How Long does it take to get a BJJ Blue belt?

I think the answer can vary, I have seen students going almost everyday and learn from trial and error, becoming blue belts in one year and easily submitting purple belts or giving them a hard time. Nonetheless, technically it could be from 2 to 3 years before they get promoted for bjj blue belt.

I personally got my blue belt after 2 years of training and after 3 more years got my purple belt, which is somewhat slower than average, so I can attest by the factors that affect the rate of promotion, in the art of jiujitsu at least in my case.

As it is different with everyone it is important you don’t compare yourself with other students as everyone has a different journey. Furthermore, each bjj coach and school will have different requirements for blue belt depending on their curriculum, lineage and individual expectations for each student.

Jiujitsu blue belt requirements

Some argue that bjj blue belt is among the hardest promotions to earn because you are going from complete lack of knowledge at the bottom of the totem pole and clawing your way towards skill level and recognition as a basic bjj practitioner is easy to feel stuck at white belt especially early into your journey.

However I personally found that took more effort to get from blue to purple belt than it did from white to blue belt, so it depends heavily on each individual’s experience.

Generally speaking a person with a blue belt would have a good understanding of fundamental body positions on the ground in jiujitsu, including: jiujitsu side control, BJJ mouth, back control, close guard, open guard, knee on belly, and turtle. You will also have a good knowledge of how to frame with your knees and legs and some basics bjj skills for self defense.
